NRIVA has celebrated its first Global convention in Washington DC in very grand manner midst of festivity, love, and affection of its members. There were about 1500 people attended this conference from different parts of the world traveling exclusively for this convention where issues like eradication of poverty, illiteracy and imbalances in society thoroughly brainstormed and discussed. There was festivity all around since it was the first global convention.


NRIVA which is based out of USA has been spreading its social service beyond region, religion, community and any other factors along with Goddess Vasavi Matha's message of three important aspects of ideal life Dharmam Sheelam Ahimsa. It has been spearheading this message across the world and has developed chapters in all important metros of North America and other European countries. NRIVA which organizes Vasavi Jayanthi celebrations every year across all states in USA has more than 10 thousand active members in the organization today.



There were several streams of programs conducted which included Matrimonial, Political Awareness, Adapt-a-Student, Business, Job opportunities. There was a special session for youth and children. All sessions got tremendous response; Business Matrimonial and Women sessions were packed and there were no seats for a lot of people.


The convention was a 3-day event. First day was a social banquet night at Hyatt Reston where social recognition awards were announced and felicitations took place. There was a fashion parade by Washington DC team under the leadership of Praveena Kalwala and Jayashree Kalva. There was a cultural talent show by NRIVA Cultural team. Food was sumptuous at the banquet night under the leadership of Satish Solleti and Kiran Kalva. Many people were seen commenting that they have never seen a banquet night with such gaiety and honor. The food arrangements were extraordinary and thoroughly enjoyed by participants. Satish Solleti and Kiran have coordinated with Swadesh Foods, who have taken care of Food arrangements and ensured that tasty and fresh food available throughout the convention time including midnights for supporting the global timings of visitors from different countries. The Banquet was addressed by Ambica Krishna who was the guest for the night. Ganesh Bigala TRS Vice President from India addressed the event and said this kind of events remind people and recharge them for more social responsibility. Vijay Chava Chairman of NRIVA gave executive team's perspective and long term vision of the organization. He claimed that NRIVA is a complete "ABCD" organization (American Born Complete Desi Organization) and purely made in America. He said NRIVA will be spreading its wings to help the needy beyond region, religion, caste and creed.

2nd and 3rd days were spent for main sessions in Hyatt Dulles in the same vicinity and heavily decorated reminding the rich culture of south India.


The Global convention which is the first for NRIVA was inaugurated by Thiruppavai Kokila Manjula Sree of Sree foundation followed by NRIVA international directors VV Sanyasi Rao and Gowraswamy Krishna Murthy by lightning the lamp. Thiruppavai Kokila Manjula Sree started the session with her spiritual discourse.



President of NRIVA Mr. Anand Garlapati has introduced Sri Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao garu whom people affectionately call GMR to the audience and also gave presidential speech on the occasion. He explained how NRIVA was formed and grew to present strengths and talked about the goals and objectives of NRIVA and the wonderful service activities that are being done by NRIVA. He mentioned that 300 underprivileged students were helped though Adopt-A-Student program in last 4 years. He praised all key members who have spent day and night to build a world class social and service organization and thanked DC team for turning out the event as a memorable one in the history of south Indian Association overseas.


GMR was the key note speaker at the global convention who has traveled exclusively for the event. Addressing the convention he said there are strong needs in the society to reduce economic imbalances and reminded about individual and corporate social responsibility to fill the gap. He also applauded service organizations like NRIVA for coming forward to shoulder this responsibility. He thoroughly praised the NRIVA effort through Adapt-A-Student (AAS) scheme and launched "Save-To-Help" scheme which was aimed at inculcating the idea of savings in children and families. NRIVA distributed "Save-To-Help" piggy banks to all the attendants at the convention at free of cost and requested children to send the collections at the year end every year towards AAS.


GMR, who recently pledged to create an endowment worth USD 340 million (INR 1540 crores) – an equivalent to the entire portion of his personal share of the business -- in favor of the GMR Varalaskhmi Foundation for charitable activities to serve the needs of the under-served sections of the society, pledged USD 2,50,000 towards NRIVA active program AAS (Adopt-A-Student). He expressed his interest in the matching grant mode as this will double the efforts.


GMR also launched the convention souvenir along with core team and felicitated the deserved people who did extraordinary service to the society across the globe. He also recognized children who have showed the great talent and excelled in their respective fields.

NRIVA felicitated Sri.G.M.Rao Garu with Life Time Achievement award. NRIVA also felicitated Dr.Sunitha Kanumury who is the President of AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian origin. The AAPI is the most powerful organization of medical professionals in the World). NRIVA felicitated Dr. Kishore Kuncham, Superintendent of Schools, for his contributions to public education and being the first Indian American Superintendent in the state of New York and first telugu Superintendent in the United States. NRIVA also recognized 15 others with excellence awards in various fields like Community Service, Sports, Education, Arts etc.

Bindu Lanka of Datta Peetham started the 2nd day with Yoga session, Rama Jonnalagadda organized Women’s Session, Ujwala led the Youth sessions, Dr.Prasad Makam organised Doctors and healthcare professional session, Ramesh Kalwala and team organized Indian Embassy sessions, Mahesh Bigala organized immigration session, Nagender Aytha led Business Sessions, Sanyasi Rao Vuppala organized session on Franchising, Nagender Mahi and Hanuman Nandanampati led Jobs and Career Session, LN Rao Chilakala helped with Political Awareness session while Madhavi Alapaty and Suneetha Karamsetty led the Matrimonial sessions. More than 20 leading businesses from IT, Finance, Pharma participated in Business sessions and Job Fair.

Krishna Mohan led the DC tours to the guests on September 3rd and 5th.


The important dignitaries from India include Pokala Chander - AVOPA president, K.Sankara Rao of Ajantha Supari, Yoganand of Manjeera Constructions etc.

D.H. Shankara Murthy, Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council was another VVIP attended the event as guest of honor.

The arrangement of exhibit booths led by Rajesh Badam attracted the crowd and helped in turning out business to local business men. Raju Thota has ensured that attendees did not face any logistical issues.

International cultural activities led by Satish Solleti included comedy skits by Tollywood comedians and musical entertainment by Super Singer winners. Cine artists like -Gundu Hanumanath Rao, heroine Kavitha who traveled exclusively for the event have played wonderful comedy skits to attract the crowd,

Archana Veda, Singers Srikrishna, Malavika, Deepu, Sravana Bhargavi who played final day music show mesmerized people with their talent and response was amazing.


The whole event was supported by NRIVA convention convener Ramesh Kalwala, coordinated by Bala Voleti and organized by Srinivas Tunuguntla.

Nagendar Aytha, Hari Raini, Santosh Morishetti, LN Rao Chilakala from Exec team worked for months together with the help of 25 US chapters leads, and thus helped to pull the event out successfully.


Gangadhar Desu, Pavan Darisi, Nagendra Gupta, Srini Maddali, Rama Jonnalagadda, T.P.Srinivas have helped the event as advisors. Suresh Katta, Mahesh Bigala, Mahi, Hanuman Nandanampati, Suresh Chatakondu also advised the event.

NRIVA's main service project is ADOPT-A-STUDENT

Very first objective of NRIVA is to help the unprivileged meritorious students.

NRIVA launched the Adopt-A-Student program in August 2008 and currently 37 underprivileged meritorious students are being helped through Adopt-A-Student program to complete their education in Medicine, Engineering, MCA, Intermediate and other courses. All of them are holders of White Ration Card and merit over 90% marks in their career.

Adopt A Student is a very transparent program where you can help the student of your choice and see the progress of the student you are helping.

Adopt A Student program is designed to help the unprivileged students in Medicine, Engineering, MCA, Degree, Intermediate, High School, Elementary school, boarding in the hostel for education. You can help these underprivileged students either for their complete academic program or yearly scholar ship of as little as $100 per year.

NRIVA will identify the unprivileged students and NRIVA education committee will screen them and select for the scholarship. NRIVA will deal with all the logistics in helping the students.

NRIVA-Scholarships:

We are starting a NRIVA scholarship program with a target of 300 underpreviliged students per year. This program is different from Adopt-A-Student program. In Adopt-A-Student program you select the student and sponsor their complete expenditure for education, where as scholarships are flatly given to selected meritorious and underprivileged students. You can contribute as little as $100 for NRIVA-Scholarship which will be distributed to one meritorious underprevileged student.
